Welcome to the best Junior sport in Rockhampton!
Junior Basketball in Rockhampton is exploding at the moment with 48% growth in our U10 competitions and 15% growth in our U12-18 competitions over the past 12 months. Our Junior competitions run on Thursday afternoons for U14-U18’s and Friday afternoons for U10-U12’s.
Year Round Competition
Unlike a lot of sports in Rocky, Basketball is year round with a Winter Season running from April-September, and a Summer Season running from October-March.
Our Next Season
Our next season kicks off on Thursday 4th and Friday 5th May with a Practice Round. The Practice Round provides clubs with an opportunity to finalize their teams prior to the real season kicking off a week later.
Key Dates for Winter 2017
Thurs 4th & Fri 5th May – Practice Round
Thurs 11th & Fri 12th May – Round 1
Late Aug – Early Sep – Finals
Basketball cut-off dates are a little strange. The official line is; a player cannot turn an age by Dec 31st of the year in which that competition is played in.
To make it simple you can find the corresponding ‘year of birth’ options for each of our junior age groups below.
U10 – 2011, 2010, 2009, & 2008
U12 – 2007 & 2006
U14 – 2005 & 2004
U16 – 2003 & 2002
U18 – 2001 & 2000
Age Group Exemptions
One of the great things about Rockhampton Basketball is that we do consider exemptions for athletes to play down an age if we feel it is in the best interest of that individual
player’s development and the balance of the overall competition. An example of this might be when a brand new U16 player is looking to take the sport up for the first time. In this instance, we might consider providing an exemption so that the new player can develop their confidence in the U14 competition for a season. Generally, this would only be considered if the player was a bottom age U16 athlete, however all situations are unique and as such treated on a case by case basis.
These decisions are determined by the RBI Development staff in conjunction with the local club delegates, with a number of factors taken into consideration.
Let’s Get Down To Brass Tacks – What’s Basketball Cost?
Our current registration rates are…
U10’s: $140 RBI Fee + *$30 BQ Fee
U12-U18’s: $150 RBI Fee + *$60 BQ Fee
*BQ Fee is purchased once every 12 months, meaning Basketball is cheaper in your second season.
Club Fee: Most clubs will charge a $20 Club Fee. This helps supports your club (in conjunction with a lot of fundraising and sponsorship) in contributing towards uniforms, equipment, training costs, and end of season break-ups.
What Do I Need To Play?
Your club will provide you with a singlet for games. All you need is sports shoes and plain black (pocketless) shorts. Alternatively, we highly recommend getting into the club spirit and purchasing a pair of club shorts. These are generally priced at around $35.00 which makes it a no brainer.
Which Club Should I Play For?
We’ve got some information on our 5 member clubs here (under development). But if you’re unsure, simply ring the RBI Development staff on 07 4922 5544 and we’ll help you find the best fit. Many of our clubs have loose alignments with local schools so a quick call to the RBI office can help streamline the process.
What Nights Do We Train?
This will depend on the club and the age group. It is best to find a club first and then determine when and where they have their training.
Sign Me Up…Where Do I Register
All our registrations are done online. Simply head to www.rockhamptonbasketball.com.au and click on the register now button or click here. Follow the prompts (really user friendly) and make sure you complete your registration by clicking on the pay now button. Occasionally the pay now button, doesn’t show up. If that happens to you, we recommend redoing the registration process on a Chrome browser using a desktop computer. If you’re still having troubles give us a call on 4922 5544 and we’ll help you out.
We Are A Volunteer Run Organization And We Expect You To Be Involved In Our Community!
Rockhampton Basketball is extremely fortunate to have friendly helpful full-time staff, but the truth is, we are a volunteer run organization. The reason we can keep fees half of what they are in Brisbane and Northern Associations is because we have an amazing Volunteer culture. If you want this to stay the same, we need your help. Clubs are always on the lookout for new enthusiastic volunteers, and as the saying goes, many hands make light work.
Are you interested in positively shaping the lives of the future generation? If so, there is no better way to achieve this than being a coach, and we’ll provide you with full training and support. Are you good with organizing people? All great teams have a great team-manager, and again we’ll help with a full induction. Would you be comfortable including 8 singlets in your next load of washing? That would be a huge help. All parents will be expected to score on a rotational basis. This is a non-negotiable. We are not a drop and run sport.
We hope that doesn’t sound daunting, but the good news is you’ll be welcomed with open arms in our Basketball community, and years later when your child looks back on their Basketball experience, celebrating the fantastic new friends and memories they’ve made along the way, you’ll look back with the same.
